Batman: The Killing Joke by Tim Sale, Alan Moore, Brian Bolland
3.0
dark emotional mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

i’m debating on if i should rate this lower because boyyyy was i disappointed in this. for a graphic novel that’s on basically every single rec list for batman comics, i thought this was going to be insane ride, so compelling and so good.

but at the end of the day, violence against women is the punchline, as it always is. horrific violence against well known and beloved female characters to further the plot for men.

there are things i liked about this one, such the red hood connection/reference to the Man Who Laughs comics. i didn’t like the flashbacks because the joker being unknown is kind of his appeal. however, the story kind of fixed it with the multiple choice line. i liked that a bit. the art style didn’t really do it for me the entire time but there was a particular panel in the house of mirrors that was really cool.

i think my expectations ruined the experience for me but i also think this is far too overhyped.
