A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

4.0

This is the second book in the Shades of Magic series, so read the first and second if you're interested!
The precarious equilibrium among the Londons has reached its breaking point.
Once brimming with the red vivacity of magic, darkness casts a shadow over the empire, leaving a space for another London to rise.
Kell-once assumed to be the last surviving Antari- begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties, and Lila Bard, once a commonplace thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery of the Night Spire collects his crew, attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible.
And an ancient enemy returns to claim a crown while a fallen hero tries to save a world in decay.

I finished this book in my AP Psychology class, and maybe it was a good thing it was in this class, because this book absolutely broke me.
I am still reeling from all the events that occurred in this book and the first two!
Nevertheless, I highly enjoyed the ending to this trilogy, and I feel like almost every character was done justice. The character development from the first book through the second to the third was completely perfect, and I love these characters so much. The ending chapters had my eyes glued to the pages, I could not stop reading.
If you love magic filled books with suspense, fights, royalty, betrayal, romance, and an incredible hero/heroine duo, you MUST read this series.
