The Last Apprentice: Fury of the Seventh Son (Book 13) by Joseph Delaney
3.0
After reading all the books after a series of several years, these were fun reads for me. However, I was dissappointed with this last book. In every book up until this one Alice had been a character who had good character development and her relationship with Tom was something I looked forward to growing. In the penultimate book, she risks everything for him, clearly they are in love. But when she switches sides in this book and is pretty much forgotten about, that felt like a cop out to me.
Maybe Delaney only had a contract for 13 books or something else impeded his continuation of the series. But it seems like he meant to have more. The whole Kabalos plot was lost on me. Why mention them at all if there's not going to be any development of the situation? And the fact John Gregory dies and there seems so little mentioned on his actual death or afterwards. I feel like the ending could have been an entirely different scenario. I love these books, but come on! It was reminiscent of the final Game of Thrones season.
