Witches Get Stuff Done
by Molly Harper
I almost loved this book. I wanted to love this book. Riley, Alice, and Caroline were the perfect coven, all quippy and quirky and full of deadpan Millennial humor. But this book felt like it needed another round of serious edits before it was published. There were all kinds of weird inconsistencies — like Riley saying she wasn’t the kind of person to have a long-term boyfriend move in just a few chapters after telling us about the fiancé she’d had (was he going to live elsewhere? No wonder he cheated on her and left) — and a lot of the action was incredibly rushed (specifically the sex scene and the villain reveal.) There was also awkward info-dumping of backstory and the enemies-to-lovers transition happened over just a few pages. But the premise was great, the setting was charming, the supporting cast was delightful, and this could have been a really good read except for all the times it wasn’t.
