Everything I’ve ever wanted since I read “The Hazel Wood” two years ago. I love Melissa Albert’s writing but I thought both the Hinterland novels got bogged down in the third act, so this short story format works perfectly. The imagery is so perfect and I’m so impressed with Melissa Albert’s ability to write twisted fairly tales that aren’t derivative of something we already know. I also loved that it felt like a mix of happy and tragic endings— too much of one or the other wouldn’t have felt right.
