frohrbach 's review for:
Paradise Lost
by John Milton
This book was a strange experience. It is not easy to review, but I do recommend it for at least two reasons: first, it is referenced so much in literature that I felt I was out of the loop. Second, it made me think... a lot. In the beginning, I was not enthused. I thought I knew the story because I have heard it a million times and did not know what I could possibly learn from hearing the tale as old as time told over again by some 17th century dude. But I finished it almost a month ago and still think about it. That to me, is a sign of a good read.
I give it 3 stars because it was extremely long, difficult to understand at times, and not always pleasant to read. I am used to reading novels from the 19th century like Dickens, Tolstoy, and Jane Austen. This was probably the most difficult work Ive read on my own.
Its hard
