Matched by Ally Condie
3.0

One of the only reasons why I think I just liked it but didn't LOVE it was because it's YA fiction and I'm not in the phase of my life, however it wasn't bad. Basically this girl, Cassia is going to be matched with someone in the Society on her 16th birthday and they will be her husband. the only thing is, she sees two guys in her micro disc and is confused about why that is. Thus starts this whole chain of events.

Likes:
I like Bran, her little brother, even though he was a minor character; I think he was a well rounded character.
The author did a great job with imagery in the beginning of the book, the banquet was described very well, down to the food.
I liked the suspense of the matching, even though I knew what was going to happen.

Dislikes:
The insta-love between Ky and Cassia; it doesn't even make sense. It seems manufactured just because he was an option.
Cassia's character was really wishy-washy. She was going back and forth about her feelings for Ky and Xander which made me dislike her and not her situation.
The society was also very reminiscent of the Giver and in Divergent.
It didn't make sense that they didn't know how to write. -- I guess there are some parallels in that kids now aren't being taught cursive.

Overall/Final thoughts:
It was a little slow for my tastes, I think they could have done a better job of speeding it up and spent a little more time on the love story between Ky and Cassia because it felt too sudden. Overall, the premise has been done before but it could have lent itself to a more existential plot line. It was okay. I would recommend it as a writing prompt but not to read.
