almost emptied a highlighter on this book. mohammed el-kurd is one of the most astute, and agile, writers i have ever come across, and i think i can say that confidently. he has sharpened his analysis – complex and clear-eyed, unsparing, full of vigor and rigour – to a point. it glints like a blade.
