➽ Komi Can't Communicate is one of my new favorite manga series! I was intrigued by the premise and felt like it would either be a hit or miss. Luckily, this was the perfect manga for me ❤️ The story follows Komi-san, a gorgeous high school student who struggles to communicate with others. Due to her extreme social anxiety, Komi is selectively mute and hasn't had the chance to make any real friends. Despite people admiring her elegance and beauty, she doesn't connect with them on any deep level. In her new class, only an ordinary guy called Tadano notices that something is up with her and decides to help her find 100 friends!
➽ Komi's anxiety was painfully relatable and I loved her so much! A lot of the interactions she has with others and the worries she carries were things all too familiar to me. I didn't expect the mental heath representation to feel so honest and emotional! I've already grown so fond of Komi and felt so sad for her when she reveals that she never had any real friends. Finding 100 friends is a daunting task but Komi has finally opened up to someone. Tadano seems to have a scary accurate insight into her mind, so he tries to help her feel more comfortable!
➽ The first person Komi gets introduced to is Najimi, an old school friend of Tadano's! Najimi is super extroverted, outgoing and constantly has a full social calendar, so Tadano thinks they might be the best person to start with in Komi's journey to befriend others. I really appreciated that Najimi is genderfluid and that it isn't used as the butt of the joke! They are amazing and one of the main characters from here on out!
