I Accidentally Hooked Up with a Vampire by Jessica Cage

3.0

Paranormal romance is new territory for me, so I wasn’t sure how typical some aspects were—but overall, I enjoyed the ride. The plot was decent, even if a few background details felt a little tossed in.

That said, Jessica Cage’s writing had me hooked. The narrator felt like one of my homegirls telling me a story, which made it super engaging. I was never bored, but I do think some scenes—especially the fight moments—could’ve used a bit more breathing room. There’s one in particular that felt like a big turning point, and I wish it had hit harder.

Now let’s talk spice, because whew—this is where the book really delivered. I was hesitant about the blood play going in, but baby… consider me converted.

I haven’t read a vampire book since Cirque du Freak in middle school, but this one officially made me a fan of paranormal romance. It was our June book club pick, and I’m so glad my friend chose it—I was downloading book one before I even finished. Now I’m just waiting (impatiently) for the next release.
