Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

5.0

The loss of a mother feels so solitary until you find the words that eluded you in the pages of someone else's story. Michelle Zauner made her unique, painful experience universal. Her grief gave counsel to mine, different in nature but the same in anguish.

Beyond that, this book made me hungry. Hungry for the many Korean dishes she describes with incredible detail but also hungry to dive deeper into the culture of my own ancestry. It connected food to memory, community and love in a way few writers can.

I'm grateful Zauner bared her soul in this book. It'll be one I come back to often in my mind.
