The Waiting
by Michael Connelly
★★★★
It is very difficult for me to give any Harry Bosch book less than 5 stars as I enjoy Harry so much. I also really like the Rene Ballard character and enjoyed that Maddie Bosch played more of a prominent role in this installment of Rene's story. However, I was disappointed that Harry wasn't involved a little bit more - although we did get some classic Harry moments, they were few and far between.
As there often is with Michael Connelly's stories, there is a lot going on in this book. I enjoyed that he used Maddie to solve one of the most famous Los Angeles murder cases and Rene's side quest (where she needed help from Harry) worked for me because we got to see Rene either on her own running down clues or strategizing with Harry. My only disappointment was that we didn't get more detail around the main murder investigation where the open and unsolved team was looking for the Pillowcase Rapist. The investigation wrapped up a bit more suddenly than I liked.
I enjoyed this one and read it quickly, as I usually do with any new story in the Bosch universe.
