Honestly this one is for the most part better than the first in terms of holding interest. I loved hanging out with Jacob's friends and learning about that part of it so much more than the various lovers quarrel of the first one, and the end of this one.
HOWEVER that being said um why do we never again address the fact that Bella probably should have been put into some kind of mental facility? For christ sakes she was catatonic then acted like someone had died. When she had been dumped. And it was justified because she was mourning a future she didn't get to have? What?? Any break up is the end of that particular future like I get it's your first break up honey but you can't expect Edward to take you seriously about being so ready to give up your life literally forever when you act like this for 8 MONTHS after a breakup. Like it honestly makes me wonder if she had some sort of mental disorder that just gets brushed over? Abandonment or parentification gone wrong or something from having to care for Rene? She was pleading with him not to leave in the first one. And in this one. I'm just not sure where the maturity she's supposed to have really is if it all depends on if Edward is there to love her.
Her parents, bless them, needed to grow some damn balls and get her professional help.
That being said, oh man did I feel bad for Charlie here. A heartbroken, stoic man trying to figure out how to best care for his newly adulted daughter when he knew if he pushed too hard she would leave. AS SHE THREATENED TO DO RUDE LITTLE BITCH. He was trying so hard to get her back to herself but couldn't. And I'm already a ways into Eclipse again and she does the same thing but worse. Does she truly have no idea how this must look to her father? The fear he must have for if he did this to her again? The obvious control he has over her? And she uses the threat of leaving as a way to get him to back off when he brings up his concerns. Clearly much maturity here I have no idea why Edward would want her to grow up a bit.
This book just made me hate Bella honestly that's the conclusion I've come to. She's a dick to her dad, doesn't think she needs to get professional help for PTSD dreams, depression, and hallucinations but thinks she's being so adult, she spends the whole time she reunites with Edward being a dumbass not realizing that he obviously left to protect her (um hullo...? What...? Laying it on thick...) and also then there's the fact she's been using Jacob basically since they met but he doesn't complain so I guess that's ok?
Anyway. I guess this was as expected.
