The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

3.5

If you are expecting this to be some gothic eerie vampire story, the this is not the right book for that. Thankfully i went in with not too many expectations so i quite enjoyed the story for what it was.

Things i liked:
~it was quite entertaining
~loved all the 19th century banter
~my fave scene is with Michael, Celine, Luca and the grandma
~the atmosphere

Things i didn't quite like:
~it was too wordy at times, especially when reading the inner thoughts of the MC, i kept zoning out
~the notion the MC has that she was evil because
she killed a man in self defense when he tried to rape her (even if this is accurate for the time period)

~the MC tries to be feminist at times throughout the book , which is oxymoron due to the point above
~i would've loved this 10 times more if i got to read more about the creatures and fey and whatnot from Sylvan Wyld, rather than concerning myself with the feelings of a mortal teenage girl (hopefully there will be more of this in the next books)

Overall it was a fun and fast read.
