The Hypnotist's Love Story
by Liane Moriarty
Not her usual style or story line, which is why I could only give it 2 stars. I LIKE her usual style. Where there are several different points of view, all culminating a final conclusion with crazy connections everywhere. This one was only from two different view points, which is ok but not what I was expecting from her. Truth be told it was a little slow for me. Usually her books are "I can't put this down because I have to see how all these people connect!" In this one the characters all kind of annoyed me. The Hypnotist herself was rather whiny. She has a great guy but all she can see is his faults and all the ways in which he doesn't measure up to her vision of a perfect guy. At one point she even talks about how she "likes to be alone". And then she ends up with him anyway!! It left me thinking, why are you settling for this guy that you don't even really seem to like?? The "stalker" if you can really call her that, was a bit crazy but not quite crazy enough. I mean, sure going into someones house and baking them cookies is probably illegal, but she really didn't do anything much that was worth all the drama that the other two characters created from it. And for Pete's sake why wait so long to get a restraining order? I know they explained that in the book but it seemed like a pretty lame excuse given the fact that she illicited such a dramatic response from them everytime she appeared. And the male character (see I can't even remember his name) He was just kind of a jerk. He didn't care for his son very well, he kept bringing up his dead wife at every turn (I know, I know, they explained this in the book too) and he was a slob. I just really didn't like these people at all. I finished it because I was half-expecting some sort of great twist or something but it never really got there. Sorry Liane. This one just didn't do it for me.
