The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory

3.0

3.5 stars. Very enjoyable read, though the weakest installment for me thus far in Gregory's Tudor series. I preferred the single character narration of the prior 2 books to this one, which is split between 3 characters. Way too much time was also spent inside a 14/15 yr old's head in this one, Katherine Howard, which caused a point reduction. Yes, I felt horrible for the poor girl, but I still hated being inside her pretty little head.

It blows my mind the level of complete power King Henry was able to amass and the whims with which he determined someone's life or death. I wonder if someone could do the same today in a country that is wealthy enough for most of it's citizens to have access to the internet which allows for rapid news spreading and thought sharing. I'd like to think a large part of how he was able to get away with such monstrous corruption in the 16th century was due to the ignorance of most of the citizens.

A quick wikipedia check shows that Uncle Howard finally was able to enjoy an imprisonment of his own, eventually, though he was never executed. Pity. I don't understand how the man slept at night.
