I thought the writing style and prose of the book was lovely. The premise is really promising and interesting and i love that this fantasy world is so full of the author’s culture, one which is not usually explored well in fantasy. However the book kind of falls flat for me in that the action and plot where convoluted and hard to follow. It’s fine if a book is mostly character based - in fact some of my favorite books are like that - but this one seemed like it wanted to be both character development heavy (and missed the mark) and plot heavy (and was confusing. I’ll read the next installment to see how the plot finishes out.
