John Scalzi continues to amuse me. John Perry is 75 years old today. He goes to visit his wife’s grave one last time and then he goes to enlist. Because in the distant future, when we have started to colonize other planets, the Colonial Defense Forces only wants soldiers with experience. Once you leave Earth, you never come back. And while rumor has it that they make you young again, nobody really knows what happens. John Perry is ready to find out.
This one is a fun intergalactic romp. Very few of the aliens are friendly and they all have different motivations. John takes this all in stride and rises through the ranks, while trying to stay alive. It’s the first in a series that I’ll be getting to eventually but Scalzi always makes me laugh.
