Birding Without Borders: An Obsession, a Quest, and the Biggest Year in the World by Noah Strycker

4.0

A delightfully nerdy account of Noah Strycker's record-setting 2015 international Big Year. Noah's story is filled with thoughtful reflections on what birding can teach us about climate change, conservation, community, and the generosity of noticing small things. I was educated about topics from the history of North American birding to the militant dictatorship of Myanmar until 2011.

The story absolutely inspired me with zugunruhe, a bird's migratory restlessness, to discover a world of birds beyond my own country. I found myself researching airfares to Costa Rica and Ecuador. I think it is more than fair to call Noah's story compelling and contagious.
