From the Ashes: My Story of Being Métis, Homeless, and Finding My Way by Jesse Thistle
5.0
I'm a sucker for a good memoir and this is an excellent one. Jesse Thistle is one lucky, lucky man in so many ways, which I can't discuss without spoiling it. Let's just say the very fact that Jesse wrote this memoir is testament to his hard work and that he's lucky to have survived.
I'll also admit I was secretly nerding out over the '80s throwbacks, from TV shows to various things I had forgotten from my own childhood (I grew up very close to Brampton). That makes for some fun (and funny) moments in a very dark story.
