was already trying to push through how awfully written the whole 'bad boy' aesthetic was in regards to the male love interest but then i hit page 56 when the author writes, "Rumor was, she had been sexually assaulted and it had hardened her and made her a bitch to anyone who didn't fit in with her." when introducing one of the other female characters. what an insane sentence to write, especially coming from a female author. using such a traumatic and horrific thing as sexual assault to explain why a female character could be described as 'bitchy' (which using that word in that way is problematic in itself) is bizarre and offensive. promptly dnf'd.
