The Fall by Guillermo del Toro

5.0

This series is quickly becoming some of my favorite horror reading. I can't help but compare it to Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach trilogy; where with Vandermeer you find pretentious obscurity in lieu of substance and actual fear, here you find a concise and compelling story, populated by lovable characters who don't wear their welcome with schlocky dialogue, and who are pitted against terrors that are actually given the breathing room to cause palpable fear and mayhem.
