I felt this was a step down from "Path of Destruction" in terms of importance of story and ability to hold the reader's interest. It was still very enjoyable in many ways, but it wasn't really my thing. I didn't find myself rooting for any characters in this book. However, the writing style is very mature and Karpyshyn does well at creating scenes and detailing them for readers. I am very interested to see where he will take the story in the last of the trilogy.
