Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

«She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.»

This has got to be my favorite in the TOG series so far - the character developments, the plot twists and the pacing of the book had me glued to the pages.

Despite the book being 600 pages, the pacing of it was so flawless it had me addicted until the very last page. How did Maas make 600 pages fly by so fast??

The plot is pure gold with plenty of twists and turns, but what really made this book so good was the characters and their complexity. I’ve never doubted that Aelin is a complex character - it’s been obvious from the get go. However, getting to know some of the characters surrounding her on a deeper level and getting a chance to peak into what drives them, what they’ve been through and their inner turmoil, is what really made the book special to me. It also made my heart open up and embrace some characters I hadn’t expected, as well as kick some others out. A special shoutout to my girl Lysandra and the thirteen.

I’m starting to understand all the Chaol hate, but I’m choosing to be the devil’s advocate and see how his storyline will progress in EOS and TOD before i start a hate train.
