I read this because THIS MOTHERLESS LAND, which I loved, is a retelling. This is a much slower & quieter book. I didn’t particularly love the characters, nor did I dislike them. I don’t think they developed much, which is something I enjoy. There is very little tension and the conclusion of the story is given matter-of-fact w/o any dialogue. Fannie is held in high regard and identified as perfection by other characters, which is kind of annoying. 😆 overall, I had a much more enjoyable time reading the retelling than the original.
