An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

3.0

I don't want to over-analyze my reading habits but this book was yet one more example of my personal life impacting my response to a book. The response isn't related the characters, plot or setting, but rather to me as character, my life happenings and my reading location. I find if I start a book in an evening just before going to sleep, I often have trouble getting into the book. That wasn't the case for this one. I was part way into the book before the bulk of my reading time occurred just before sleep. And daytime was so busy there wasn't time to carve out upright, vertical locations to read.

So how much impact did that have to my response to this book. I'm going to guess there was some impact, but I think my less than enamored opinion of this book might be connected to the footnotes and Colin's obsession with the graph. I found it just too distracting and burdensome. Having said that I'm glad I stuck around to the end because Colin's new found emotional knowledge and life perspective was worth reading. Will I book talk this one? Maybe, however given the popularity of the author, it might not be necessary.
