The beginning of this book was so promising. It had an interesting premise, mysterious atmosphere, and a compelling narrator. However, about 30 percent in everything falls apart. It becomes dull and convoluted. Character motivations become unclear and unbelievable. It’s really too bad because I did love the beginning.
