Once Upon A Time in Bharatha Desham by Mahesh N. Kotekere
4.0

India has a hierarchical society, and societal hierarchy is evident of caste groups, amongst individuals. “Once upon a time in Bharatha Desham” by “Mahesh N Kotekere” is a collection of short stories which reflect our flawed society and a dedicated person to bring the change.
This is a story of a King who challenged the stereotypes of society, believes in equality, and wants to make a safe and happy place for his people. but many conspirators are ready to hinder his path. You will find a glimpse of Indian epic stories with deep meanings. Will the King be succeeded to break the stereotypes?
I found each story well developed based on an array of themes, nepotism, casteism, slavery, greed for power, politics, and pride. The main charm of this book is “The King with no name and identity” yet an Influential character. I think Mahesh is the type of author who has a rare skill in creating characters who are real and easily relatable to readers, and in also educating the reader about the history, and relationships among the different people.
Overall, it is an engrossing read with deep meaning. I would recommend this book to everyone.
