Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
DID NOT FINISH: 8%

Maybe I'm just cynical lately, but I don't see the appeal in reading about first-class one-percenters. I found it hard to get past the bitterness I felt towards the royal family and the first family. A $75,000 wedding cake- I don't really want to read about anybody even remotely related to something like that. I knew it was going to be about powerful rich families, but I figured the power and wealth and fanciness would be more of a backdrop. The kids are eating donuts in the whitehouse while people are dying. Conflicts with england??? The book acts like the US doesn't have literal wars and conflicts constantly going on that are devastatingly bad. It didn't feel realistic that we have endless wars in the middle east and yet one crashed-into wedding cake is going to be the thing his mom would worry about.
