A rugged life on the Oregon Trail, a strong minded, free spirited woman, the tragic and bitterly cruel losses of native tribes, and enduring love--of all kinds.
I especially enjoyed the dialogue between Charlotte and Chace Yellow Cloud--so much better than the often insipid conversations in many a rom-com. (This novel is most definitely NOT a rom-com, but it is a romance.) But then, conversations between father and daughter, daughter and uncle, Charlotte and her adopted children--all of them are what talk should be, among family members and good friends. Open, honest, caring. Would that we were all like these characters!
