A Vow So Bold and Deadly
by Brigid Kemmerer
Okay, so this was a whirlwind with lots to debrief. I loved this series and it’s definitely going in my top five of the year (I’m not sure if I like it more than The Cruel Prince). Book one was fantastic and my favorite in the trilogy. I’ve heard the story Beauty and the Beast a million times but this hit differently. Rhen and Harper’s relationship I adored so much and Lilith was the perfect villain (not to mention, her name is so pretty.) I was very excited to begin book two. Book two was eh. I loved Grey but I lost interest in him and I was desperate for more of what Rhen and Harper thought about the situation. Lia Mara I really enjoyed though. Her chapters really captivated me and I loved reading them. Also, I didn’t fall for their relationship as easily because I was still so tied up in Rhen and Harper. The ending was good though! Book three was awesome, but some parts drove me crazy. I loved all four perspectives and how there was more Harper and Rhen than Grey and Lia Mara. I got to understand Rhen’s pain and why he did what he did. However, Lia Mara I hated in this book. She was petty, catty, and just painful to read about. I’m probably being catty about the fact that I like Rhen and Harper more and want them to have their ever after, but I didn’t like her “peace” approach and it just annoyed me after a while. Grey also changed and just the way he acted towards Harper made me a little angry. Again, I know I’m biased towards Rhen and Harper. Lilith though broke my heart. She was so evil but it made you actually question if she could be defeated. Awesome series, though and I’m glad I read it! (I brought all three for vacation and finished all three in about 8 days)
