Holy shit!

I'm not one of the fast readers, but I've finished this 500 pages long book in less than a week. I had quite high expectations for this book, simply because I had to fight myself though the last book I've read and didn't want another "bad" book right afterwards. And let me tell you this book crushed all my expectations not just for this book, for every book.

The way Tracy Deonn wrote this book just screams effortlessly respectful. This book featured quite diverse characters without making it a big thing. The main character is a powerful 16-year-old Afro-American girl, you have plenty of LGBTQIA+ side character who's specific sexuality wasn't even mentioned because it was such a casual thing, you also had a non-bionary character who was just straight up introduced with they/them pronouns (again so beautifully casual), strong female side- and main characters and not to forget the way Tracy Deonn portrayed the feelings some Afro-Americans have and especially the fact that a lot of black people in America don't know their ancestors further back than maybe three generations. The main characters also deals with grief and trauma after the death of her mother.

Tracy Deonn just managed to portray all of these important topics, that sadly still often count as topics nobody speaks about, with such an effortless respect that I just want to re-read this book as soon as possible.

All of this review and I haven't even started with the plot.
The book plays in the modern time (2020) but with the world building and connecting to King Arthur it feels modern and ancient at the same time. The characters are amazing and I loved everything about this book. Get ready for a love triangle and fights against the evil all during a time where the Bree tries to find herself and her ancestors history and the reason for her mom's death.

Get ready for a book that you can't put down and plot twists that you won't see coming. I didn't expect this book to become one of my all time favourites, but I loved every page, every second of this experience and it is already one of the best up there for me personally.
