It's about hope, amidst the complications of life. It's scary, but I suppose that's the appeal, because you question if you'd make the same choices as Lauren in the book as she did.
For all her complexity as a character, I love that she never lost her love for humanity despite humanity's capacity to do vile and cruelest crimes against others. That's the hardest thing to do. To still have hope in humanity.
I took a lot from this. Especially given the recent world in 2024, the book wasn't far off in some of the scenarios about the future.
