After being in a reading slump all of May due to being sick and not 100% vibing with the hyped book I was trying to read I was a little hesitant to try reading again.
I am currently participating in the Once Upon A Readathon for the month of June! I am representing Team Mermaid but we can also read books with the other teams mascots to either gain points for our Allies (Pirates) or Attack our enemies (Gin and Dragons)...
I don't typically read a lot of Pirate or Mermaid books I'm hoping this readathon helps me expand my reading I have many different directions my TBR can go in this month. Luckily I loved Daughter of the Pirate King and gave it 5 stars so we are off to a great start!
As I said I don't typically read many Pirate books really the only Pirate series I'm familiar with is the Pirates of the Caribbean movies which I enjoyed the first few movies before losing interest...
However this book grabbed my interest from the beginning I really enjoyed the banter between Alosa and Riden I think there is definitely more going on with Riden then what meets the eye and I hope book 2 reveals more about him.
I loved learning about Alosa she is badass! She knows how to hold her own against the Pirates and I enjoyed learning more about her Siern abilities as well. Alosa may be one of my new favorite female characters and I definitely wasn't expecting this! I am excited to continue on with book 2 and get some answers to my many questions. I feel like there is a lot of deception and secrets going on where we stand!
I always feel like I can go back to my comfort genera Young Adult when I'm in a slump but I do still want to give other genera's a chance! This book definitely did not disappoint!
