Foundation
by Isaac Asimov
“Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.”
Once again, Asimov does not disappoint. I’ve always understood Science-Fiction has a great way to understand how different people understand how we can work today to shape the world of tomorrow, and Foundation provides us with a gateway to discuss the many different philosophies that seem to envelope how we look and deal with political/international relations.
Fair warning, this book does have many major jumps, which at times left me a tad confused on where things were headed; it covers a plot line that spans quite a few years, which Asimov navigated by using generational jumps. But, if you hang in and work through the jarring of each jump, you will be rewarded with an amazing story with great moral lessons. Asimov works hard to show how logic, patience, and strategy will overcome any obstacle; while doing this, it teaches us that violence is unnecessary, as long we think through the situations at hand.
“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.”
