π βA Career in Books is a graphic novel for everyone who's wanted to work with books and had no idea what it entailed. It's for those who were taken aback by that first paycheck. It's for those who wanted a literary career even in the face of systemic racism, who dealt with the unique challenges of coming from an immigrant family, and whose group chat is their lifeline." π
I picked this up on a whim while browsing the graphic novel section at the library, which was the perfect way to discover a book about books! We follow Shirin, Nina, and Silvia who are roommates and have just gotten their first jobs in publishing βοΈ . One is working for a textbook publisher, one an indie pub, and another a traditional pub in NYC. They also start to befriend their 92 year old neighbor & author Veronica π΅π½ , which they found out has won a literary award π₯ back in her hay days. This is a great ode to the millennial with a college degree. I enjoyed the art style and narration. I had quite a few chuckles π€ ! Light and heartwarming, perfect graphic novel to break up my typical reading. I think this was my first fictional graphic novel but I typically read nonfiction GN's so I kept thinking this was autobiographical! Perhaps it was that good/realistic :)
