Fumbled by Alexa Martin
4.0
Alexa, play "More Than Enough" by Alina Baraz.
Not sure how I started this book around 8 am this morning and ended up finishing it before 2 pm. I did though. This is the first I've read of Alexa Martin, and honestly I'm a bit impressed. There is a lot of romance stories in the world and sports stories I read few and far between tbh. Not because they're not good, just.. I get enough sports IRL already. However, I felt all the good feels while reading this and its took some talking down before I went and bought the other two books in the series that are already published and at least write this review first.
I am a sucker for second chance stories and this one was no exception and after reading the blurb about single mom crossing paths with her first love after years of separation I "one-clicked" it.
This story is told from Poppy's POV and she's really funny. I caught myself being able to relate to her during my time reading. She's independent and feisty, however, she's caring and scared of being vulnerable, which I loved.
"I like doing things on my own. There’s a comfort in knowing that the only person who can let me down is me."
See she's been taking care of her little one all on her own and even though TK has his heart on his sleeve for her and Ace, it is hard to just relinquish that sense of control to someone else. I get that a hundred percent.
"Ace is the reason my heart beats, America’s favorite pastime be damned."
I also enjoyed that we got to see Poppy deal with these thoughts and emotions "on screen" and off in her own head. As well as see her hilarious sense of humor too.
"What is that, you ask? Do I have a piss-poor attitude about this? Why, yes. Yes, I do."
TK is the sweetest and smoothest, and damn he sounded so sexy. He comes in with high energy and he keeps it throughout the entire journey. Since he didn't get his own POV you soley have to depend on his actions to see how much he cares which he clearly does. I love having two alternating POV's in romances and I would've loved it for this story too, but TK's earnestness carried regardless of him having his own chapters.
"I want our lives to become so intertwined we can’t figure out where one starts and the other ends. I want you and Ace around as much as I can have you around. I want you both.”
Overall very happy about this story. Extremely happy about the representation/ inclusion of POC. Loved the love. Will continue to read this series and give whatever else she writes a chance.
