“But at night, she wasn't a wife or a mother; she was a woman marooned on her own deserted island, waiting for the sun to rise.”

I've been meaning to read Night By Night ever since it came out in 2019, but somehow I never did. In a way I probably should have waited a little while longer as psychological thrillers and me don't seem to get along lately, and I might have enjoyed it even more... But even so, I still ended up having a great time with this one. I've been a fan of his writing ever since I first read one of his books, and Night By Night is no exception. It is one of those stories that draws you straight in, and with plenty of twists and a healthy dose of suspense it will be very easy to keep turning those pages. There are quite a few heavy topics incorporated into the plot, including homophobia, hate crime, death, suicide, grief, insomnia, stalking and mental health issues... Turning this into quite a harrowing read, but the different themes are well incorporated. I can't say I actually liked the main character though, which put a minor damper on things, but the plot itself mostly made up for that. The flashbacks and Finn's journal entries were also a nice touch. All in all a great read that without doubt has a very explosive ending!
