Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
5.0
Anxious People is one of those books that slowly creeps up on you. It starts with a strange but intriguing premise, and at first, you’re not quite sure what to make of it. The structure feels a bit disjointed, almost confusing, and the characters seem quirky at best, and downright insufferable at worst. But as you keep reading, something unexpected happens. These weird, chaotic people begin to grow on you. Before you even realise it, you care deeply about every single one of them. You find yourself completely pulled in.
On the surface, it’s a story about a bank robbery gone wrong and a group of strangers stuck together in an apartment. But that’s just the setup. At its heart, this book is about what it means to be human. It’s about the messy, complicated lives we all lead, about loneliness, anxiety, and the quiet ways people try to keep going even when they feel like they’re falling apart. It’s about connection, compassion, and the surprising ways people can help each other without even realising it. More than anything, it’s a book about second chances.
It’s moving, it’s funny, and sometimes it breaks your heart a little. But it also reminds you how good people can be. This book snuck its way into my heart and I know this is a story that will stick with me for a long time.
