Just My Type by Falon Ballard

Did not finish book.
First, a big thanks to Netgallery for a review copy of this book as it was one of my most anticipated reads for 2023.

However, I’m incredibly sad to say I’m dnf-ing this book at the 68% mark. Even sadder because Lease on Love (Falon Ballard’s debut) is one of my favorite reads of this year. But the longer I read this book, the more I just don’t like it so I’m throwing in the towel.

My primary issue with this book is the fact that I don’t care a bit about Seth and Lana. You are told so much about their deep connection with one another yet at nearly the 70% mark I still wasn’t seeing it. I was never shown why they should have a second chance at love or what even worked in their past relationship for that matter. And also, why did it have to be a secret for so long as to why they broke up? The lead up did nothing for me.

Plus, once I learned more about their past I realized how immature Lana truly is. In particular their most recent interaction with each other. When she’d talk about how much it hurt her I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. I’m all for a flawed character and I’m sure this is probably tackled a bit later in the story but personally, it made it hard to enjoy the romance when Lana was persistently irritating me.

As for Seth, I hardly knew a thing about him at this point. I didn’t find him swoon worthy or like… anything? I just didn’t care about him.
