weird pacing. too slow and then too fast, which is a waste for a book almost 500 pages long that could fit so much in such a juicy length. the romantic chemistry also wasn't there for me, and the deception of court politics just didn't hit right when it really so obviously telegraphed. but the prose was good, and i loved the family relationships and the food descriptions.
