Emma by Jane Austen
4.25
I find Emma to be a charmingly flawed character and I liked watching her growth and maturity through the book. There is so much dialogue about mundane daily details that sometimes it gets a bit slow, but much of it comes with a sarcastic undertone that pokes good-natured fun at the characters. It is quite funny as well. The line that sort of ruined it was Mr. Knightley telling Emma he had loved her since she was 13. Also the classism and misogyny of the time is frustrating. But it’s a classic for a reason - worth reading and analyzing this clever illustration of this period in England. I do prefer Pride and Prejudice more, however.
Moderate: Misogyny and Classism
Minor: Adult/minor relationship
