The Fifth Head of Cerberus: Three Novellas by Gene Wolfe
4.0
This book is so strange. The weirdest structure for a Novel I've ever seen, consisting of three seperate Novellas that are intrinsically linked. The perspective shifts between the novellas are jarring snd confusing, with each one both revealing answers while asking more questions.
Exploring themes of colonialism, slavery, identity, folklore and much more, while not making definitive statements. I had to sit and think on this for a while, trying to decipher what exactly this book was trying to tell me. But I can tell that's definitely the selling point of Wolfe's writing. I kept getting new things from the book with each analysis I read, and I know that upon reread it's going to reveal even more.
A confusingly dark and twisted tale, and a good introduction to the author. Very excited to start The Book of The New Sun, I'm expecting great things from it if this novel is a taste.
