The Betrayals by Bridget Collins

5.0

I am not a writer. I’m not a writer, so I can’t even begin to try and articulate just how much I loved this book. But here goes...
When I first read The Binding, I was blown away. I knew, even having only read a few books since January 1st 2020, that it was going to be my favourite read of the year. It’s always a tricky business, when you discover a book that you fall so deeply in love with, because you end up setting incredibly high expectations for the author. You want more, need more. But I usually find I’m almost always disappointed.
However, it would seem that Bridget Collins is the exception to that rule (if it’s even a rule... it might only be me!)
I hadn’t even made it half way through before telling everyone I knew how much I loved this book, the way the story intertwines, weaves across time and brings so much life to each character. I felt completely immersed in the story, experiencing overwhelming emotion (even at points where not a lot was happening). I even started writing this review when I was about 60% of the way through.
It’s so rare for me to find a book that leaves me so in awe, even rarer for me to realise how much I love it whilst still actually reading it. So often I find my love of a story is experienced after I’ve finished the book, reached the end and understood the conclusion. I like to have closure, to see the whole picture before I really think about how I felt whilst reading it.
This book is not such a one. I will tell every person I know to pick up this book if they love fiction and get a high from a well told story. A certain 5 stars all round!
