This book is probably the most cringey thing I’ve read this year. It’s so bad. The MMC is 30 but talks and acts like a teenager. He says the most obnoxious and crude things. He’s a man baby looking for fights. Not your typical arrogant, hardass mafia guy with the swagger that usually makes crude comments work. He’s just a walking, talking, emotionally stunted man baby. The FMC.. who the hell is she? She will fight kids at school and run her mouth with the MMC but for whatever reason she loses her backbone with her family? Just goes all wet blanket. The taboo just doesn’t work in this book. He comes off too predatory for my liking. That’s due to a mix of the dub con, how mean he is to her, and he pretty much says he’s using her. There is no chemistry. There is no budding tension. They start messing around chapter 1.
