My Dark Places by James Ellroy

5.0

I've been a big fan of James Ellroy since I read L.A Confidential for high school English. This story about his mother's death and his life dealing with that is simply fantastic. This is no jolly trip down memory lane. This is the true story of a disturbing past which goes some way to explain Ellroy's choice of writing now. There are no happy endings and that is unfortunately the way it often is. I admire the honesty of this book as Ellroy has left nothing hidden about his mother's life and himself. That is not an easy thing to do.
