THIS. SERIES. UGH, it's just SO GOOD! I haven't enjoyed an entire series as much as this in a long time. The characters, the humour, the incessant swearing, the smut, the DEATH, the ridiculous gods and even those damn footnotes - everything was just so enjoyable! This trilogy was an absolutely fun ride from beginning to fateful end.

The gods and mythology were layered on pretty strong in this last installment, taking away from earthly violence and swash-buckling of our motley crew of survivors - but it felt inevitable that the story had to go this way. I undoubtedly enjoyed the second book more, but this was a solid ending for all our heros (if you can call them that).

All that said - this is my first Jay Kristoff novel and I keep wondering if this writing style is just how he always writes. In my head, the voice and true narrator of this novel is Mercurio, so I'm hesitant to encounter this style again in another Kristoff series since it ties so well to a specific character. My hope is that Kristoff's writing style is indeed diverse and will not accidentally conjure up Mercurio in another universe - but I guess there's only one way to find out...
