From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke

4.0

Going into this, I did not realize this was a grief memoir (even though I knew Locke's husband had died from the synopsis). And that's not really a genre I gravitate towards. So it took me longer to get through this one since I needed to step away from it at different times. But Locke has written a beautiful portrayal of how she dealt with the aftermath of her beloved husband's death. Much of the book focuses on her time spent in Italy with Saro's family and how her reconnection with that place and it's people helps in her healing process. Beautifully written with wonderful descriptions of Sicily and food, this book is a love poem to her late husband.
