Diplomacy by Zahra Owens

4.0

Though this had its quirks, I thoroughly enjoyed this little gem of a book. Yes, it does include cheating with an upper case C and for mm purists out there, beware for there is fairly explicit on page het sex but I was totally engaged with Lucas and Jack. Funnily enough this is my first book about a diplomat and though I can't comment on the verisimilitude of the diplomatic protocol, it appeared to be accurate in the portrayal of diplomats caught in the middle of unpopular policy put forth by their respective countries. Jack is the US ambassador to Brussels. Lucas is a junior diplomat for the UK. There were a few writing idiosyncrasies - Jack is American and the US president is often referred to as "his president" or "my president." Similarly, during Jack and Lucas' interactions, the author uses "the American" to refer to Jack or "the Brit" to refer to Lucas. Made for odd reading but I enjoyed their romance and was reading frantically to find out how they were going to work out extricating Jack from his marriage. A very mature ending. I was initially flummoxed by the situation with Lucy and wondering why the author handled it in that way, but the ending was quite a surprise. Very emotionally satisfying with some lovely sexy bits. Now looking for more books about diplomats!!
