A book about repression in the guise of liberation. An irritating, needlessly intrusive narrator, though perhaps I’d just forgotten how irritating the narrators of Victorian realist novels are.

A really strange section in the middle of the narrative that seems to dodge the difficult questions of the book by skipping over the slow disintegration of a marriage. Still, quite enjoyed the ending, which packs more emotional punch than the previous 600 pages combined.
